Most companies in almost every section of all industry have some 'requirement' like this. Basically most of the time it is to put off people who don't have enough self belief in themselves or their work. Basically they want applicants that believe they are good enough to compete with people who have the couple of years experience. If you see this in a job advert never let it put you off applying as with the right portfolio and attitude you can get the job.

The reason that this makes it to Interlopers is that I started my career here and I like to pay it forward :)

The requirement is that you be freaking awesome and able to prove it. That's all the requirement ever is in this industry (the job spec is basically a filter to tell you how awesome you need to be). If you have the skills to do the job then we and anyone else will happily hire you regardless of experience.

Mister woo kitten can you give a more detailed picture of the job?? by example which level build tools you have to use and engine details and 3d packages??
By the way Massive sounds like a Awesome job :P
To bad AUTOCAD design does not count its great for urban and Architectual design!! i do have experience in Hammer and i do to in 3DS max but more for props and structures than for human animation.
to bad om not a AAA yet but i am Rough and always want to learn you never know enough ;)
