The Large Hadron Collider: Source

Postby Jean Marcel on Sun Nov 07, 2010 4:31 am

Time for the first mod media release. I've been working for about 1 month in the first chapter: The Compact Muon Solenoid. Here you will be introduced to the story and will initiate the events. This chapter will probably be released on January, 1st, so prepare to enjoy the first mod of 2011.

Please, give feedback to the given media.

I'm pretty sure the Hadron Collider is much bigger than that.

That looks to be the right size

That's all very well and good, but can it create a black hole which will ultimately doom the entire galaxy?

Gather scientific evidence towards the theoretical existence of the Higg's Boson in order to shoot gravity at the combine and make them asplode.

it was inevitable that someone would make a mod or game out of this, thought of it my self a couple of times :)

I remember around a year ago or something, FPSBanana had a contest for re-creating the Large Hadron Collider. I'm interested in how this can be pulled off into an actually mod.

Does the player push a test sample into the core and all hell breaks loose with a resonance cascade?

A 'compact muon solenoid' doesn't physically make sense as muons are electronegative and it would take more power then the LHC could ever provide without creating a magnetic field large enough to ruin the solenoid's effects to keep them compacted small enough to form either part of a solenoid for even a second.

Wikipedia wrote:CMS is designed as a general-purpose detector, capable of studying many aspects of proton collisions at 14 TeV, the center-of-mass energy of the LHC particle accelerator. It contains subsystems which are designed to measure the energy and momentum of photons, electrons, muons, and other products of the collisions. The innermost layer is a silicon-based tracker. Surrounding it is a scintillating crystal electromagnetic calorimeter, which is itself surrounded with a sampling calorimeter for hadrons. The tracker and the calorimetry are compact enough to fit inside the CMS solenoid which generates a powerful magnetic field of 3.8 T. Outside the magnet are the large muon detectors, which are inside the return yoke of the magnet.

So it's got chambers full of muons as part of it.
