Valve Wants You To Make Items In TF2

Valve announced yesterday that they're introducing a submission-based community inclusion system for Team Fortress 2. You can now send them your attempts at creating TF2 items and avatars, and have them included in the game proper:

Today we're unveiling the TF2 Contribution site. This nifty site will allow anyone who's made a custom piece of TF2 content to submit it to us, with a view to it appearing in-game. Many of you have been building fantastic TF2 work for a while now, and we wanted a way for you to get it in front of all TF2 players, and for everyone to see that you were the one that built it.

It's nice they are supporting the custom community a bit more than they did with some other titles, such as CS or DOD but at the same time I would think some would feel a bit slighted to not get paid for their work? Of course the other way to look at if for someone that's actually very serious about working in the industry is that it's something to add to their portfolio.

I wouldn't be surprised if anything you submitted was taken. All of your TF2 stuff I've seen is great. You should try making some original weapons. Do weapons count as items though?

I submitted some original weapons, a wrench model, the huge spy revolver, etc. I guess it'd be wiser to submit hats since you get what you make and those are less common.

This gives me a great excuse to practice modelling, especially since hats can be done in a pretty short amount of time.
