Looking to buy new computer/laptop

Postby thefight on Mon Jan 31, 2011 4:41 am

Im tired of running CSS at 15 fps and BF BC2 so slowly I could count the frames myself. I want to be able to run all the new games everyone is raving about so I figured its time I bought a new computer.. or laptop.

I would prefer a laptop so I could use it both at home and at school, but I'm not sure what the market is like for gaming laptops. Do you think it would be possible to get a good gaming laptop for a reasonable price? I would prefer it to a desktop.

The problem is, is that I don't have the first clue about what makes a good computer. I dont know what to look for or anything like that.

I would like it to be able to run the newer games (Crysis, COD BO, etc.) fairly easily while still keeping the graphics somewhat high. I kind of want it to be a minibeast machine, but Im not sure how far $1000 goes today, computer-wise. I really don't want to go over $1000, Im already unsure if I even want to spend that much at all.

So what I am looking for is a computer that can happily play games on with out lagging up a storm for once.

I got a Sony Vaio with a AMD 2.74Ghz CPU, 4GB RAM & $00GB hard drive, and it'll play L4D, L4D2, the HL2 Series at 75-100 FPS, and I paid around $700 for it....

My friend recently built a computer for $700 (No monitor, keyboard or mouse.) And it plays BFBC2 at max graphics and just about anything else he can throw at it without even having to overclock.

If your only after a box - condier this;

- SG06 Case
-i3 530
-Zotac H55 wifi ITX mobo
-Seagate 1.0TB HDD
-9800GT
-4GB GeIL GV34GB1333C9DC

You could always look at a better video card, but that cost me $650 AUD - good mapping machine, and good gamming machine - quite, and small.

Comes with a 300W power supplie (more then enough for its size)

Looks good - but are you sure you want led on the keys?

We got these very nice looking Acer desktops at work, only thing is the bloody led status lights blind you, and you cant see ANYTHING but the spots (like when you look at the sun).

I had been dying for them, I hate having to tilt the screen forward to see the keys at night. I didnt think that they would be that bright though, Ill try to see if these would be as bright.

Personally I would suggest a Toshiba or Asus since I've owned a laptop by both of these companies and they were really good. I'm still using my Toshiba laptop for three years strong now.
