DiRT 3

Postby PaulH on Wed Aug 04, 2010 7:06 pm

Thought i'd start up a thread for the latest game i'm working on after DiRT 2, surprisingly, its DiRT 3. The teaser trailer has been released, so here it is in HD:

Previews should be in magazines now and up on the interwebs any day now, so I'll link to them here for anyone who's interested!

Add in a red Ford Focus S or RS and I 'll buy it for sure. I 've been craving for a good rally game recently. Would be extra fun if I would be able to drive in my own car :D

I loved Dirt2, played it A LOT with a wheel on the harderst difficulty with a friend. PaulH, You should totally lobby for 'free races' because you couldnt do them in 2.

Can I have this for free seeing as I ended up with two copies of dirt 2?

Still early so not really much to say but if it is as good as the first 2 I will most likley pick it up.

How do you mean 'free races'? Like no time limit and just let loose on a track for as long as you want?

We really liked certain tracks and we wanted to play them with a certain car against certain opponents. Some customisation in that would be nice, like a free race option before going into career.

Looks epic as always. The visuals in Codemasters games always blow me away.

I loved DiRT2, and this I'm certain will be just as good. I agree to add free races, practice, etc.

Really what I'd love too, is just kind of a "test drive" map or something, because messing with the car physics is so much fun. I remember in GRiD all I'd do was go to the Le Mans track, turn around, drive the track backwards, and on the long straight away I'd meet up with the other drivers coming the opposite way and just slam into them and watch the metal fly, and then reverse it and watch it all over again.

So, just some test drive or stunt map would be great, with unlimited rewinds and stuff.

Fat chance, obviously, but I can hope.

Beautiful trailer. At first I was like "Is this real footage?" Then I noticed that it was in-game, or was it actually pre-rendered? I simply can't tell. Dirt 2 had probably the most memorable tracks in any racing game, and I wouldn't doubt it if Dirt 3 actually looks this amazing.

I'm actually curious to see what you'll be doing with the menus. Dirt 2's menu was AWESOME.

I agree on this as well. Letting players customize all sorts of rules and settings in a free-race mode would definitely make the online even more appealing. Sort of like Halo's match making stuff I guess? Probably a bad comparison actually...

PS: I'm still waiting for you guys to make a dirt bike-oriented game that's as epic as the Dirt series!

Not sure about the free races but you guys will like the Battersea compound, it's a stunt/gymkhana area that's about 2 or 3 times the size of Battersea in Dirt 2, that you can invite your friends into and play the party modes or just mess about, there'll be more info in upcoming previews i should think but thats probably all i can say about it at this time :) There are previews in this months EDGE, OXM and Official PS Magazine for anyone in the UK

Also Nub the trailer is CG, though the car and the road surface were created in game, the backdrops and effects weren't.

I hope they keep the ability to set whatever screen resolution you like.

Nice, i'd seen a 6 screen setup running GRID before but 10 screens running Dirt 2 is pretty cool, sent it round at work, thanks for the link

A racing game without Free Races is like a dick without balls. In the case of Dirt2, the dick was really large. Sorry for that comparisment. Can't wait for this to be released ! Looking fantastic.

Racing game fan asks:
"Can I get a job at Codemasters? I model 3D cars and I've gotten some inspiration from DiRT2."
(image: http://meta.filesmelt.com/downloader.ph ... mfull2.jpg)
"Did you work on DiRT2?"
"What was the tri count of the bowler nemesis in dirt 2 n_n"
"Does dirt 3 has night time and weather like rain and snow"
"if it has a bowler wildcat and more rally raid"
