I think taste should also be a factor.

Choccy block!

20 mins
91 polys and 152 verts.

Btw, Barra, the clay render link is dead.

For 3DS users, this is how to get a clay render:

Go to "Create" dropdown menu. Select "Lights". Go to "Standard Lights" and choose "Skylight".

Place the skylight anywhere on your grid.

Press F10 now - this will bring up the Renderer menu. Go to the "Renderer" tab. In the menu you will have a "Filter" pointing to a dropdown menu that will say "Area". Click on the dropdown, and select "Catmull-Rom".

Nowgo to "Advanced Lighting" tab. The very first dropdown will say "<no lighting plug-in>". Click on the dropdown and select "Light Tracer".

There, you are done with setting up the Renderer. There are two small steps left though.

Close the Renderer window, and Press number 8 on your keyboard. This is a menu where you choose the colour of the background. In the "Background" textbox, where it says "Color:", below it is a black square. Double click. You will have a pallette opened now. take some shade of gray, any will do. Take 111 111 111 for example. Close the window.

Almost done now. If you would render just what we have so far, you will have a clay rendered something - but there will be no shadows. Reason? Well, there is nothing to project the shadows onto, is there? Therefore, we create a horizontal plane right under our model. Apply any color to it.

Now you are done. Click F9 and enjoy:
