Speed Challenge #7 - Air vehicles

Postby BaRRaKID on Sat Apr 05, 2008 5:05 pm

I hope more people join in this challenge.
For this one you will have to make a vehicle that flies. You can do anything from planes, to spaceships, hot air balloons, zeppelins, etc.
As usual you have 120minutes (2hours) to create the model, the model cannot be skinned, and don't forget to include:

- A render
- A wireframe
- Tri count
- Time spent creating the model

We recommend that you post your final images using a clay render. Check out this excellent tutorial from game-artist.net to learn how to do it with maya and 3ds max.
The rules can be found by clicking here.

This challenge will end tomorrow at around 7pm GMT, click here to see when that is in your timezone.
I've no sign

I made this for the last speed modeling contest, the wheeled vehicles one, but completely forgot to enter it. So here it is, in all it's half-assed glory, mah box car rocket.

I would join in these challenges if I had more time. I can only do stuff in my breaks from school work. When I passed my exams, I will try to join these challenges as well.

I'm a little late, but I might try something. I found a good site that has nice references of spaceships from certain series, http://shipschematics.net/ if anyone's interested.

I didn't find the time for this challenge. Sad, since the theme is cool. :)

It's a Babylon 5 maintenance bot. Probably very inaccurate, and a bit undetailed on some spots. The top bit of it really didn't have much on it, it's kinda plain. And some parts I didn't know where to put. I think it came out alright anyways. Those rounded bits at the sides where a pain, made them with extruded cubes but after making it successfully making it I accidentally hit ctrl+z, and Blender decided it didn't want to redo. So I did it again but it looked sucky, 3rd time was pretty good though. The other parts of the model were pretty simple though.

Took 1:29 hours, not counting render and setting up stuff. Render time is 24:28.36, long 'cause I've got a 930 Mhz Pentium 3 on this system and YafRay only uses the CPU. Render setup took 4 minutes. 2132 tris.

Wireframe.. more like lazy picture of Blender..:
