3Ds max Rock render problem

Postby kirumi on Sun Aug 15, 2010 10:22 am

Hi there !
I tried to do this tutorial by philip K : http://www.philipk.net/tutorials/modula ... rocks.html

Finally, I have this render :

From this material :

I don't really enjoy this render.. I think my rock is too smooth than the materal wich is sharp.
Am I wrong ? With a better lighting it'll be nicer ?
I am working in scanline with 3Ds. It's a scene for my pleasure.

Thanks for your suggestion !

maybe to deep cuts? (i never tried rocks in 3dsmax) but try to make it look less repeating but i know thats a hard task because rocks are not bricks :P and maybe its the colour of the light that makes that rock look so cool colour plays a large role making things look good try a more warmer colour like yelow for the light... also a good tip when making a rocktexture try to find photos to guide you to the colours you should use for your rock texture

here a picture of a texture im working on ;) it looks a bit blocky but on the model it does his job

Use a viewport shader to get result similar to how they will look in-game.

i had to lighten up my texture afterwards... it just looked to dark... to solve the problem i took some HD pictures of metal and then tried get the same colours in to my texture complicated :P but hey its about rocks :)
