Any books for learning to model/animate 3ds max??

Postby stukabomber44 on Mon Nov 15, 2010 10:23 pm

Hey guys,

I'm totally new to the scene of modeling characters, props, guns etc. I also want to learn how to make animations as well for guns, npc reactions and so on. I was wondering if anyone here knows of a good solid book that teaches the fundamentals of what I'm looking, modeling/animation in source. I've looked online but I thought I'd ask the people here that could possibly point me in the better direction.

Thanks a lot.

Here's a book I like:

http://www.amazon.com/Learning-Autodesk-2010-Foundation-Games/dp/0240811941/ref=pd_ys_iyr_img

It's good on getting one acquainted with modeling in Max. I'm pretty sure there's not a book dedicated for modeling in Source. For that, I would look at the Noesis Interactive videos at Design 3 http://www.design3.com/

I'd start here

People tend to recommend the Beretta 9000 tutorial by Ichi as a starting point. Other than that, I'd get a Gnomon/Eat3d/Digital Tutors/ Noesis DVD instead of a book. I think they allow you to learn much faster. This also looks like a good place to start, I just found it

Good luck man!

If you happen to be on Autodesk's Subscription for 3ds Max... then the book Foundation for Games is available to download as free material in the subscription site.

I bought Noesis' video Character Design & Integration a couple years back and learned a little bit from it... but I didn't like it enough to buy any of their other videos.
