Question about weapons and its animations

Hey I'll try and make my question make the best sense it can.

I have created props (boxes, trash cans chairs etc) But now I want to explore into the weapons creation part. How do I make an animation of a gun shooting? A rifle I want to make is a basic bolt action rifle. So what steps can I learn to make this dream become a reality? I have maya and 3ds max, are there video tutorials you guys could provide so I can learn???

Incorporating the code into the source isnt a problem, it's just the creation and how to make it is the biggest challenge.
