3ds Max export issues

Postby BiznessMan on Thu Aug 30, 2012 6:17 pm

I'm having some odd issues with exporting my models from 3ds max 9. The SMD exporter says that the models is exported but when I go to view it in model viewer or in game I notice that some of the bones are missing, there are new bones in random places, and some of the faces are missing. For example I made a model with a basic box collision model. Then I open it in HLMV and notice the lower arm and hand boxes have become one long box and the bone for the hand is missing.

I've had better luck exporting my models as OBJ and then export from Milkshape. Not really sure what is going on here.

try defining your bones using studiomdl and then include that in your qc, my other sugguestion would be check the schematic view in 3ds max to make sure the bones are linked to the correct parent/child

I suggest removing your Skin modifier and re-applying it.

Also, applying and then collapsing a Reset Xform modifier could fix some annoying export errors that stim from dragging things around in ways that you shouldn't have after applying the original Skin modifier.

After you have the Skin modifier added, you should only move things by dragging bones.
