Finally, I got my first model into hl2, im very happy. I've had a lot of unsuccessful attempts, and half tutorials/broken links.

Its nothing great, but now that I know the process I can focus on quality.

That's actually a very nice model. Release that to the Gmod community, they'd make good use of it for their comics I bet.

Thank you nub, I might do thatt (if I can get the model back...)

Tictac- what really shit its pants is my hard drive, because it (I think) crashed the next day.
I went to turn on my rig, bios wasn't detecting it anymore so was asking for a boot disk. Hard drive has power and spins, no noise, less than 1 yr old.
I'm taking it to a friends house to test asap, but I'm so bummed, and computerless, and I have a terrible 3dsmax itch I can't scratch.

;_;

For such a small model the texture quality is quite bad :p
but looks good either way!
Turning Mipmap off on the textures improve the quality.

It's good to always have bootable Linux CD for these kinds of situations. Ubuntu has saved my computer more times than I care to think about.

It might just be the SATA/IDE cable that connects the hard drive. Did you check to see if it were lose, or try and replace it with a different one (assuming you even had a spare)?

it´s not exactly the model you´ve posted, but one of the members of gaming-models has made a similar model
Check this:

Modeling doesn't mean illegally porting models from one game to another. Make something yourself.

That's not modelling. Modelling is when you take a primitive shape and mold it into something you've got in your head or to match a reference. What you're doing is porting, and you so happen to be using a modelling program in a certain stage of the process; that does not make you a modeller. I dub thee a porter.

Although I'm sure it's a great way to get started, since it's a less intimidating way to get familiar with the software, the engine, etc, and it's good for the gmod and youtube community (I can't decide if that's good or bad though). But try to leave your mark on anything you port. Add buttons and little extra details to things and change up the textures a little, because just porting straight up without being creative isn't good enough.

i have to disagree, i think it's the worst way to start as you'll probably make a habit out of it. You learn nothing by porting models, as you don't even need a modelling program to do such a thing.
