Portal 2 Released

Postby MayheM on Tue Apr 19, 2011 5:43 am

After a lengthy slog at the Indie Games Mine, Valve have finally deemed us worthy of their newest offering. That is to say, Portal 2 is now released on Steam. Those who preloaded can go ahead and play right now, or if for some reason you haven't bought it yet, you can do so at the Steam page for it.

Portal 2 is now available worldwide via Steam. The game will be available at retailers beginning today as well, check your local retailer for availability. For more information, please visit http://www.thinkwithportals.com

Try to keep spoilers inside spoiler tags, and go and have fun.

It releases for retail at 7am PST April 19th, thats about 7hours and 46mins from now, for me at least. 12hrs or so wasn't really a big pre-release IMO.

It's an awesome game, but one thing makes no sense. Why did I get 36 free ingame items for coop?

Your late.

Mine's ready to install, but I can't because my ISP sucks(download cap). I am looking forward to it.

Just a reminder for anyone who hasn't heard it, the Interlopers Steam chat is to be spoiler free with regards to Portal 2 for the next week. If you reveal a spoiler in there, you will be kicked (Melvin might be even harsher).

Also, Mayhem, do you mind if I edit your original post so it can go on the front page as news?

Not at all buddy, not at all...

But yeah I played for about an hour but had to go to bed. The game is freaking Awesome and had me laughing the entire time while playing. It has been so long since I have experienced the disorienting effects of the game. So much fun!!! So much Win!!!

Just remembered something...

Highlight to read:
Anyone catch GLaDOS talking about maybe reanimating the dead? Perhaps a hint as to what caused the L4D outbreak. Though the timeline is a bit off since this is I am assuming in the future.

Prior to release they talked about the length
Highlight to read:
and it's not nearly as long as they said it would be. I don't know why they got rid of the diversity vents. They could have built more puzzles. They clearly had more puzzles that didn't make it in. Where were the balls? I guess those weren't that great. I feel like each section where they introduced new mechanics could have been a bit longer too, it felt like they were being constantly piled on. The game is constnatly moving fast fast fast, could have slowed it down a bit, paced it more, had more of the originals cerebral puzzle. Maybe had more of GladoS's clean and perfect chambers rather than immediately breaking you out again. I kept thinking that maybe once glados returned to her throne she would want to test again since It needed more portal 1 like sections.

Every second is non stop epic which is great, everything was great, but since it's such a huge divergence from portal 1 they should have paced it a bit longer with some more portal 1 like section at the beginning and middle. The old sections were awesome, made me think of black mesa. the overgrown sections were awesome. there are so many different styles, so many different areas of the facility that are constructed in different ways with different styles. it is so much more in that regard than what i was expecting

also good job valve, for making source no longer janky(by improving the loading/no more stuttering/and the menus)
